Since I was young, I desperately wanted to sing but I was a naturally horrible singer. When I heard that anyone can sing with quality vocal instruction, my search for a great vocal coach began when I was 26. After seeing a few vocal teachers that didn't meet my my standards, God answered my prayer and lead me to Winnipeg’s best kept secret, Kim Wood. I’ve been seeing Kim for 2 years and as a licensed Physical Therapist, I can attest that her unique Mask Singing Theory firmly honors human anatomy & physiology AND takes advantage of it. If you are still singing based on the head/chest voice theory, speaking as a human function professional, you are in dire need of a wonderful technique upgrade!! In addition to her rock-hard theory, Kim teaches you how to take care of your instrument and optimize your sound. She breaks down the anatomy of a song to a beneficial extent I never thought possible and teaches how the pros create their sound in any genre. She overall helps her students achieve their goals and sing smarter, not harder. I’ve learned indispensable song-writing secrets from her as well.
I highly recommend Kim as a vocal teacher. She is the only teacher I feel comfortable spending my hard-earned money on. I’ve also seen her work wonderfully with youth!!

“I have been attending vocal lessons for approximately two years now, and within that time frame have seen some incredible improvements from the day that I walked in. Not only have I seen improvements in my vocal range, pitch and breath control but she has also taught me many vocal exercises and how to break down a song into sections to achieve the maximum understanding of the mechanics of a song. Aside from the main reasons one chooses to take up vocal lessons - to improve their vocal ability's Kim gives so much more to her students. I’ve taken lessons from many other vocal teachers before but I’ve never had a teacher as passionate as Kim. She cares so much about her students and always tailors her lessons directly to me and what I need to focus on. She helped me get rid of old bad habits and replace them with new techniques to help me sing with ease. I’ve always known that breathing is such an important part of singing but I’ve never had a teacher who really took the time to work on my breathing technique. Kim has introduced me so many breathing exercises that have improved my vocal performance dramatically. I no longer feel as if singing for long periods of time tire me out and I have more than enough breath to hold those long notes. Kim is always enthusiastic and continues to bring me new exercises and songs that challenge me and keep me improving. When I first began lessons with Kim it was a big goal of mine to work on my bottom end notes. Not only has Kim helped with this goal successfully but she has helped me surpass my goals. My range has improved on both the high and low ends of the scale and I now have a range of over 4 octaves! Kim is a wonderful teacher because not only has she helped me improve my vocal ability but because she is so invested in seeing me succeed. I currently work as a singer/songwriter and am trying to make a life-long career out of it. Not only does Kim help me to be a better singer but she is very invested in my career and her attention to detail helps in all aspects of my job. "As a lead singer in a band, I did a lot of performances and recordings during my daily life. At the beginning, I found Kim just for some tips in order to gain a place in a well-known singing competition (The Voice of China 2017). To my huge surprise, it is no exaggeration to say that she is like a magician in my music career. Music is her life and she puts all her heart into teaching and delivering every detail of singing in an easy, clear and effective way. After just a few classes it was like stepping into a brand new world. It started with breath control, the 5 essential singing vowels, breaking down the songs and various other practice tools etc. I will never forget how Kim and I strived for the final round of the competition, she did a bunch of Skype lessons with me when I was in Vancouver, always supporting and praying for me. Guess what!? I got the CHAMPION for the contest at the end!!! I'm so lucky to have Kim as a mentor, a close friend, and even my "Mama K" in my life. As a self-taught singer who started to frequently sing live music, I knew I needed help with breathing and technique. I feel it is important to keep learning and growing in all our passions. So I searched for a local music teacher and found Kim. When I came to see Kim aka “Mamma K”, I felt a comforting energy, I was at home. It was like meeting with a lifelong friend. “As a musician who has been performing and recording for a long time, there are certain things in a person that are required to work alongside somebody on projects; Patience, passion, a good ear for music, respect, and pride in what they do. She has all of these things, and much more. I sought out a vocal coach when I had a great song/album concept I was diligently working on. As a professional I want to make the best product I possibly can. After meeting this voice coach I knew right away she would be an asset to my projects. Kim has been one of the biggest factors in my musical journey. I had tried several other vocal instructors with limited success, and thought the lack of success was my fault. I was beginning to become unsure of myself as a vocalist. That doubt changed when I met Kim. She unlocked within me a vocal range and voice that I never thought was possible for me. Through the years she has continued to help me with my weak spots, and fine tune my abilities and voice. She would always fully embrace the songs that I would want to learn.
